Butternuts and rainbows.

By dennis

On October 3rd we got treated to the 2nd coldest and earliest frost on record. It didn’t mean much good to our butternut squash that was still ripening in the field,  ready for harvest.
While harvesting the next day these amazing rainbows came out, so hopefully it brings some good luck, or at least some better weather for next season.

Hokkaido jingu market.

By dennis

We had some beautiful summer days at the marche at Hokkaido jingu.  Amazing how many people show up at 6 am in the morning for a stroll and a stretch. Driving back and forth  is definitely not good for my rest, but it is a nice place to be and to sell organic veggies.
With some great light coming in through the trees in the early morning it is perfect for taking some veggie shots. Here are some of them.
Thanks to anyone who came and supports!

Tendril.

By dennis

Tendrils are what keeps vine plants of the ground. They reach out and twine around anything that they get hold off. That's why peas, climbing beans, cucumbers etc. need some support for the best growing results.

Natural born killer.

If only frogs ate mice....Lazing in the shade of the remnant jalapeno plants, hoping for a tasty bug to pass by. Lots of jalapeno seedlings got eaten by mice. I guess they like to add some spice to their life too.

Brassica

By dennis

The brassica genus contains lots of very populair vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, turnips, all those Chinese greens and mustards and rape seed for oil. All very different, but when they mature and flower to produce seed, the flowers all look the same.
