With late summer in full swing, the count down till the first snow begins. Veggies galore now, the best time of the year, really. Everything ripens to their seasonal best and with the nights cooling down a bit as well, plants get some rest at night and get to bring out their best.
Our veggie boxes are loaded now with all the fruits of the field. All grown for their right season and not artificially created in green houses. Some very tasty melons and watermelons coming up too. We got some seed for the French Charentais melons, and we grew a bunch. Apparently the tastiest melon on the planet, but who are we to decide. But we will add it to your veggie box so you can decide.

Nursery time at NGF. Looking after many little baby plants. It is a bit of a delicate job.
These little fellows don’t need much but some light, water and fertilizer, but to get the balance right for good growth is a bit harder.
Once the plants are established and the first true leaves are appearing life goes pretty quick for these jalapenos. they will be producing their first fruit in two months time.
We had a bit of a late start, but late May early June we will have seedlings for sale as well. But for outdoor planting that is right on time for Hokkaido.

These little tomatoes were our favourites this year. The ultimate healthy snack. Always looking for some new varieties to grow, these flavour bombs will surely return next year.

We are really busy on the land harvesting pumpkins and potatoes and in the greenhouse our heirloom tomatoes our showing their true colours. We have about 15 different tomatoes in all kinds of different shapes and shades. Right now we have an abundance of my favourites: purple russian and white peach. All mixed up in a tomato salad is a great surprise in different flavours and textures.

Sometimes on your tomato plants some really big flowers appear, usually at they start of the cluster. These flowers suck up all the energy of the other flowers and distubs the devellopment process of the other tomatoes.
The fruit of these flowers will usually be deformed as well. So to safe the plant a lot of energy, i take these flowers away. In the home garden it can be fun to grow them some times as you get the weirdest and biggest tomatoes from them.
